Here at the airport to fly home for the holidays. They say to be here at least two hours early. Do that by getting here 2.5 earlier. Problem is the Delta desk isn’t even open so there is a gigantic line of us just waiting. I’ll have the privilege of rushing through TSA once I get my bags checked in, that should be fun. I’d rather drive to California but it would take too long.

Same to you.
No I’m in San Antonio. I’ve heard horror stories about flying to/from ATL. LAX is nothing to write home about either haha.

I fly out of Atlanta all the time and have spent time in a lot of airports around the world. It really is not that bad. Simple layout and plenty of amenities. Pro tip is to enter the airport from the international terminal even if flying domestic.
If you want pain try Heathrow, Charles De Gaule, LAX and Seattle.

Good to know, I personally haven’t been there. LAX is always a clusterfuck of a place.

Add PHL to the list of places to avoid. That’s my closest airport, and I will drive further away just so I don’t have to go there.

Man, that sucks. I will give the counterpoint: driving also sucks.
It’s been cold as balls here and I don’t have time for anything, so I opted to let a shop deal with the Lancer maintenance I’d been putting off. It usually just farts around the neighborhood, but my parents’ house is five hours away, so I kind of might want brakes on my car. I-35 is going to lock up—I just know it. A few hundred dollars later...I’m broke. Car things + Christmas = noooooope. And now I have the world’s dullest drive to not look forward to. It’s not even interesting, save for one short stretch of road near the very end.
Screw holiday driving through the boring part of Texas, too. It’s bad and dumb, and should feel bad and dumb.

Haha yoi may be right
Guess I’m remembering and mentally comparing, maybe unfairly, ATL before the crushing crowds and that preposterous Federal make-work charlie-f, the TSA

Flying with no bags (just a backpack and maybe a small roller bag) with online check in at a normal time in the middle of the day is the best. Especially when you have the airline credit card so you get the free passes to the lounge and priority boarding. Then flying actually feels like a relaxing experience instead of the hell that it usually is. I have been living through a bi-coastal long distance relationship so I have made the best of flying 5-6 times a year.

Yeah, the TSA has been an issue. That is why airlines like Delta recommend getting there two hours early. Not so much because of check in, but because they can’t say what TSA will be like.

Yeah agree
Seems like the last count I heard, terrorists apprended: uhm, zero.
Plus last spring or summer someone was reporting that something like 95% of “suspicious” test objects sail through totally undetected by the TSA....
But the bureaucrats feel safer so it’s OK, right?

I love to travel, but I hate to fly. After the return flight from my honeymoon, I’ll never fly more than a couple of hours without Valium.

Stop in Dallas and I’ll buy you lunch. But only if you first stop at Gerik’s and bring cinnamon rolls! :)

As someone who doesn’t know a lick of French I found Charles de Gaulle to be super easy for me to navigate. Even had to take one of those airtrains from one location to another to get my stuff and had NO problem getting around with the signage, didn’t even have to ask anyone.
